AJR, Snow, Certitude and Sludge

My #ThemeSong today is BANG! by AJR, a band of three brothers who started busking in New York City's Washington Square Park over ten years ago. They created their own record label and, since then, report this experience:

"For us, every single one of our songs got big in a different way... 'Weak' was just huge on Spotify. 'Sober Up' and 'Burn the House Down' got really big on alternative radio. And [Bang!] is our first song that actually is growing on pop radio... It's crazy that we're reaching new audiences every time we have a new single."

Bang!, which was released in Feb 2020, is their first top-ten billboard single. I only heard it recently (not much of a pop radio listener, I guess); and it may just be my theme song for the year, particularly after reading the song's backstory. “We wrote ‘BANG!’ about the weird middle-ground between being a kid and becoming an adult; a time when we’re doing all the things adults are supposed to do, but we don’t yet feel grown up,” says AJR. "The fact is, adulthood is bound to hit us at some point, so the plan we made in the song is to ‘go out with a bang.’"

I'm at least twenty years older than these boys, and the sentiment applies to all of us, just the same.

On the home front, we had a smattering of snow last night, as promised by the 100% forecast. Not really enough to make a snowman, so we put out the one we painted on one of this year's Christmas presents, which we cut out and saved just for the occasion.

The wet snow made for good snowballs, which my son brought inside to munch on with brunch:

#VoiceInMyHead Today:

I took this picture a few days ago, when I thought I might be lost in Carolina Beach State Park, just after I realized I had GPS and could watch myself walking to the visitor's center on my cell phone screen (I was lucky my battery wasn't dead).

Incidentally, does anybody know what this white foamy stuff is at the marina in Carolina Beach State Park? Looks kind of scary to me.
