The Beautiful Attrition of Family Relics

.

This was my grandmother’s chair.

It was reupholstered just before it was given to me

over twenty years ago.

We pulled it out when we had a large group of friends or family over;

but, other than that ,

it sat in the corner of an underused room in our house.

We never really knew what to do with it,

but it was always there when we needed it

-so we never got rid of it.

Since we moved into our “new” house,

five years ago,

we have given in to our cat’s claim of my grandmother’s relic.

Seems appropriate it should die with us,

and we are enjoying the beauty of its attrition. 🌈
