17 Jan 2021- 6 days off Facebook (Peter Gabriel, Watched Pots, and Edible Creations)

Theme Song Today: I came upon the Peter Gabriel song below for the first time today, when looking up the lyrics to Bon Iver's Holocene (one of my son's all-time favorites), and it melted my heart. I shared the song with my musically voracious son, who surprisingly hadn't heard it; and we agreed that it's crazy that, though hauntingly beautiful in its own right, Bon Iver's version is more well-known than Peter Gabriel's original (below). When I looked up the lyrics and read the history behind the song, I felt even more blessed to have heard it. "Whatever fear invents, I swear it makes no sense."

#VoiceInMyHeadToday

A watched pot never boils.

Facebook posts "reach" hundreds of what may even be true friends, at the same time not really reaching anyone at all. You wait for the pot to bubble, checking back persistently, and it does throughout the day; but mostly it just simmers, and you just keep watching.

My #ProudBlackCat, Kale, fish hunting this morning (hug):

And here's a photo of the "edible creation" we made for my 17YO's birthday last night. It's a pyramid of fruit shish kabobs! We got lucky and all the berries we bought tasted lovely, despite the fact that it's winter. I highly recommend this easy alternative to cake. Note: Going heavy on the whipped cream is a must :-).

Considering my urges to post on Facebook throughout the day (and the fact that I still post comments on other people’s FB posts), Facebook’s (thankfully postponed) desire to provide an Instagram app for kids younger than 13 and Google’s marketing of it’s “Messenger Kids” platform are particularly concerning. I mean, I don’t claim to be “normal”, but at least I’m well into adulthood! Here’s a good link regarding social media safety for children: www.infinitydish.com/blog/social-media-safety-for-children/.
